Give Them Wings to Fly
Each of us go through various stages in our lives. Whether we like it or not, there will always be a new adventure around the next bend. Our daughter will be facing a new beginning of her own, as she will be going off to college in a year. This is our first baby leaving the nest and a new experience for this mama. God continually places things on my heart concerning my children, one of which is being able to give them wings to fly. Being someone who likes to control a situation, I would love to control what the future brings, sadly I can not, none of us can. The Lord's word states that there is a time for everything in life. "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: 2 a time to be born and a time to die,a time to plant and a time to uproot, 3 a ... read more
Fishers of Men
This picture was taken last weekend after my husband took my son fishing. He was so proud of the fish he caught. He couldn't stop talking about it. Taking time with our children is so important. I love the following quote by Charles Swindoll, "Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children. ". Create times with your children where memories are made and life lessons are taught. The most important thing you can teach them is to be a follower of Jesus, and to do His will. Teach them also to love, to serve, to be respectful, to be compassionate, to be strong in hard times, to be faithful. So much can be learned through everyday activities and special moments alike. Time goes by in the blink of an eye. We think we can always put it off till tomorrow. Yet, we are ... read more
Sticks and Stones
This weekend was not at the top of my all time favorites. Have you ever heard the saying, "Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me". Well, the truth is they do hurt, sometimes....a lot. Words have the power to sting to the depths of the soul and wound a heart very deeply. They can create a ripple effect that you are not even aware of, due to whatever a person might be going through. James 3:5-6 tells about the powerful effects of the tongue.5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. Pick ... read more
Do Our Choices Really Matter?
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveller, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference ~Robert Frost We are all faced with a multitude ... read more
Capture The Moments
From the first day of school....... To a ride on her favorite horse... To Christmas card pictures...... Soak up each and every second. Don't let the snapshots in time that you have with your children slip away. Make sure you treasure them and hold them dear to your heart. Say yes to the game of Clue, yes to, "Will you help me build a snowman?". Before you know it days turn into months and months years and then their gone. Yes, you have many jobs, wife, daughter, homemaker, homeschool teacher, blogger, writer, and some may work outside the home. All of these jobs are very important. However, one job that you should hold with the utmost importance is being a Mom. What an honor it is that God has entrusted us with our children, to ... read more
In Your Weakness Are You A Stumbling Block To Others?
Photo Credit At one point or another we each go through various trials in our lives. .... moments where we feel weakness. These times of weakness can come when we hear the diagnoses of cancer, the loss of a job, not having enough income, wondering how the next bill will get paid, a lack of peace within the family. When we go to through these trials we can get to a point where we feel as if there is no way out. We see people in the Bible from Joseph to Peter who suffered for the Lord's sake, so that a greater good might come. The Bible tells us that our faith will go through times of testing... "So that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of ... read more
Who’s In Control?
As I was making lunch this week, I found myself in the kitchen with my ipod on listening to some wonderful music. The song I was listening to was called , "Our God Is In Control", by Steven Curtis Chapman. While I was listening to this, I found myself raising my hands in worship to our Father. In the middle of my kitchen there I was, along with His angels, offering praise to the King. Carefully read the lyrics and see if you can relate them to a stage you might be going through in your life. This is not how it should beThis is not how it could be But this is how it is And our God is in control This is not how it will be When we finally will seeWe'll see with our own eyes He was always in control And we'll sing holy, holy, holy is our God And we will finally really understand what it ... read more
A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
I love black and white photos. Especially ones from long ago. It's as if you can look into their eyes and see what they were trying to tell you, a story of who they were and where they came from. A story that held laughter, joys, hurts and sorrows all rolled into one.The picture above is one of my mom and her three sisters taken in Kansas during the 1930's. From left to right there is my Aunt Betty, Aunt Helen, Aunt Ruby and the little blond one in front, with the great big smile is my mother. My mom is smiling because she was the youngest, and was pretty tickled because she was holding a purse in the picture. Was it her purse, no, it was my Aunt Betty's, henceforth.... she is wearing the frown. This picture always makes me smile. It makes me want to step back in time and see what life was ... read more
