Fishers of Men

This picture was taken last weekend after my husband took my son fishing. He was so proud of the fish he caught. He couldn’t stop talking about it. Taking time with our children is so important. I love the following quote by Charles Swindoll, “Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children. “.

Create times with your children where memories are made and life lessons are taught. The most important thing you can teach them is to be a follower of Jesus, and to do His will.  Teach them also to love, to serve, to be respectful, to be compassionate, to be strong in hard times, to be faithful. So much can be learned through everyday activities and special moments alike.  Time goes by in the blink of an eye. We think we can always put it off till tomorrow. Yet, we are not guaranteed tomorrow. Don’t waste the now moments.

What deposits are you making? Make them more valuable than gold. Form ones that they will be able to look back on and learn from, for years to come.

I used to love to go fishing with my dad when I was little. Great photo, verse and memories!

I stumbled across a photo of a son and one of his first fish. It made me smile. He was SO proud!

Give a man a fish and he eats for one day, teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime. Good post.

What a perfect picture to illustrate that verse. And great wisdom in your words. So important to not waste the now moments.

When I was ever with anyone who was fishing, I had a book. Didn’t fish… didn’t like to grab worms or hook them, didn’t like to see someone catch a salmon and whack it on the head to kill it or to catch catfish and nail them to the wall of their garage to kill them thoroughly. SO, I just hung out and read. Being by the river or on a boat… that was great! NOW, I do understand the story you shared and the scripture. Really do! And the comments others made indicates that everyone understands and enjoys. That is good. [My favorite fish: impersonal ones I find in a freezer at the grocery store or those ordered at a restaurant… all clean and seasoned and tasty.] Hope you can put up with my comments and thoughts…

I love your comments! Thank you for sharing. I am in agreement with you on the fishing. It’s not my favorite thing, but my husband and son sure like it. 🙂
