This past year has been filled with uncertainty and prayer. In October of 2010, I went in for my yearly oncology check up, which I absolutely dread, it's as if there is a gray cloud continually hanging over my head. The cloud started to pour when I found out on that my tumor marker counts were up to a 52 when they should be no higher than a 36. The next day I was immediately scheduled for a P.E.T scan which detects if there could be any cancer lurking in my body. I was told they would not have the test results until the following Monday morning when I could come in at 9am. Over the phone I told the nurse, "Why, so you can tell me the bad news?" "No she said, we are thinking positive so we can tell you the good news." Monday morning November the 15th, 2010 came and the gray clouds started ... read more
Leaving A Legacy
Welcome to "Leaving a Legacy". The term leaving a legacy became near and dear to my heart, back in 2007, when I gave my testimony at a Mother's Day tea at my church. In 2008, I launched my blog for the purpose of sharing family experiences and how God was working in my life through having breast cancer. On November 10, 2010, I was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer......a life changing moment...... "Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you." Acts 4:19 Throughout this past year, the Lord has placed on my heart the desire to make sure, I tell others of the great things He has done in my life and ... read more
Choices
I have been thinking lately about how important the choices we make in life are. All throughout life the choices we make are vital. As a teenager I know I thought life was so care free and I didn't have a concern in the world. But, the choices made during this time of life affected who I am today. Which friends to choose, which college to choose, which person to date. We may not realize it, but they all change the outcome and direction of our destinies. In our adult lives we are faced with choices that daily affect everyone around us, especially our children. I often wonder how things would be better or worse if I would have made different choices. I feel that one of the most important choices we make on a regular basis is in the area of speech. The words that we choose to speak to others ... read more
Zone Quiz
Yesterday was a busy day for our family. We woke early in the morning, to six inches of snow, to travel to our zone quiz meet which was about half an hour a way. At the meet the kids did wonderful! Our teams took first and third place, and Daniel only missed 1 question so he was able to be part of a 5 way tie for first place! Good job Daniel! Then we were blessed to have 26 people, all of the quizzers and their families, over to our house for a quizzing potluck/awards ceremony. The time was filled with good food, friends, laughter and our 11 quizzers receiving special recognition as they were reminded how important they are to us, and how well they have done this year. I hope the quizzers realize that as they study God's word they are laying an incredible spiritual foundation and building ... read more
They Are Always Watching
During two separate instances today I was reminded of the fact that I am a role model to my children, and they are always watching how I react to things. The first was during our literature time when we were reading a story out of "Wisdom and the Miller's". In one of the stories a little boys by the name of Peter made a statement and then his little sister Laura immediately repeated what he said. It was at this point that my daughter Emily said, "Boy that's why we should always be careful of what we say because others will pick it up."Then later in the afternoon Daniel and I were walking through Walmart and he looked up at me and said,"Your tired aren't you Mom?" To which I replied yes. Then he looked up at me and replied, "That's one thing that I like about you Mom, even when your tired ... read more
What will Your Legacy be?
God takes each of us down different paths for many reasons. There are many twists and turns along the dusty roads we travel, many valleys that we will walk through, many mountain tops that we will stand upon. Through it all we are growing and learning each step of the way through trials and tears, victories and celebrations. What we are left with in the end will be a legacy for our children and those around us. The story that follows is an excerpt of a speech that I wrote to present to our church for a mother's day tea. It is lengthy and will take some time to read, but it is an important starting point of being able to view a glimpse of me and my family and the journey that God has taken us on. In one form or another, we are all affected by the individuals in our past. For some ... read more
