A Blog Makeover Genius

As I have re-launched my blog this week I have a few people to thank for allowing this to happen. First, I want to thank the Lord for placing this on my heart. Secondly, I want to thank my best friend, and wonderful husband Bill for supporting me. Thirdly, I want to thank an amazing woman of God, Traci Michele, for giving my blog a new look. She is definitely a blog makeover genius! Her and I spent most of last week brainstorming over ideas, of how to get the design I wanted. She was very patient with me as she answered all of my requests to get the look just right. She is extremely talented in the work she does. She is able to know just what your thinking and then create that into a layout that is a perfect fit for you. Traci strives to serve Jesus in all that she does, and this is ... read more

Round Two

This past year has been  filled with uncertainty and prayer. In October of 2010, I went in for my yearly oncology check up, which I absolutely dread, it's as if there is a gray cloud continually hanging over my head. The cloud started to pour when I found out on that my tumor marker counts were up to a 52 when they should be no higher than a 36. The next day I was immediately scheduled for a P.E.T scan which detects if there could be any cancer lurking in my body. I was told they would not have the test results until the following Monday morning when I could come in at 9am. Over the phone I told the nurse, "Why, so you can tell me the bad news?" "No she said, we are thinking positive so we can tell you the good news." Monday morning November the 15th, 2010 came and the gray clouds started ... read more

Welcome to "Leaving a Legacy". The term leaving a legacy became near and dear to my heart, back in 2007, when I gave my testimony at a Mother's Day tea at my church. In 2008, I launched my blog for the purpose of sharing family experiences and how God was working in my life through having breast cancer. On November 10, 2010, I was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer......a life changing moment...... "Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you." Acts 4:19 Throughout this past year, the Lord has placed on my heart the desire to make sure, I tell others of the great things He has done in my life and ... read more

Every since my children have been little I have had a passion for photography. Anywhere they went you could find me right by their side with camera in hand. It has gotten to the point where everyone calls me Mrs. Spielberg because I love to take pictures so much. Last year I received the wonderful gift of a Cannon Rebel T1i camera from my whole family. Since then I have been talking pictures non-stop. Below you will see some of my favorite photos from 2011. From time to time, I will post more of what inspires me. Enjoy..... ... read more

This has been a hard week for our family. We have received unwelcome news twice this week. Even though it has been difficult and still is, we know that God is with us every step of the way. This video below is a song by Casting Crowns titled, "Praise You in this Storm," which fits exactly to what we have been feeling this week. You will have to pause the music on the sidebar in order to hear this song. ... read more

Homemade Laundry Soap

A few weeks ago Daniel and I made homemade laundry soap. It did not take much time and was actually fun to do. We figured that the cost of a 5 gallon bucket of soap is $2.00 which lasts our family 2 months. When we compared this to what we spent on name brand laundry soap we figured we were saving roughly $228 dollars a year. That is quite a savings! After trying the homemade soap I feel that is cleans just as well as the store brands. Below you will see the instructions for making our thrifty soap. 1. Add 1/2 cup of Borax into a five gallon bucket. 2. Add 1 cup of washing soda into the five gallon bucket. 3. Grind up 1 bar of Fels Naptha soap. 4. Put the ground up soap into a saucepan and cover with warm water. Set on medium heat and stir until ... read more

Last Friday evening my Son had a quiz meet at our church with the rest of his team mates. They have been studying the book of Exodus and where quizzed over the first 15 lessons. I am an assistant coach to the team of 12 and usually score keep at each of the quizzes. I was especially excited for Daniel during this quiz, because out of 3 rounds of 20 questions each, he did not miss a single question! He was so proud of himself when he accomplished this , as were Mom and Dad. Way to go little buddy! All the hours of studying paid off! To top off the evening he found out that his team also took first place. The picture below shows Daniel with the biggest grin ever as he is holding his two first place ribbons. ... read more

Here is a list of various things that I would like to work on this tear, with the Lord's help of course.1. Spend time daily in the word and in prayer.2. Try to go a full 21 days without complaining. (Hopefully by then it will become a habit.)3. This falls in the #2 category, but is more specific, try not to criticize anyone, especially my husband.4. Get to a healthier weight by eating better and exercising more. I hope to in turn instill these habits to my children. I have to start teaching a Meal Planning Class at work which in part talks about good nutrition, choosing healthy snacks, ect. Maybe I'll take some of my own advice. :)5. Start and finish writing a book that God has placed on my heart about my journey through breast cancer.6. Be more organized.7. Be more consistent on ... read more

A few weeks ago my ten year old son came home from being with his Dad and said, "Mom, I have a surprise for you!" Out from his back he pulled a bouquet of little pink roses and said, "Mom this is an award for being the best Mom. " Sigh.... well, he brought his Mom to tears and reminded me that everything I do day in and day out is indeed worth it. ... read more
