A few weeks ago Daniel and I made homemade laundry soap. It did not take much time and was actually fun to do. We figured that the cost of a 5 gallon bucket of soap is $2.00 which lasts our family 2 months. When we compared this to what we spent on name brand laundry soap we figured we were saving roughly $228 dollars a year. That is quite a savings! After trying the homemade soap I feel that is cleans just as well as the store brands. Below you will see the instructions for making our thrifty soap.

5. Pour the melted soap mixture into the 5 gallon bucket.

7. Fill the bucket to the top with hot tap water.
8. Seal tightly and let the mixture sit overnight.
9. The next day the mixture will be a gel like substance. Mix equal amounts of the soap with water into a seperate container and shake well before each use. The mixture will have the consistnecy of egg noodle soup and will not suds a great deal. For top loading machines you add 1 cup of the soap mixture. For front loading machines you will need to add 1/3 cup of the mixture.
