Christmas is such a special time of year. Looking back over all the Christmas memories that I hold dear, I can remember one from my childhood that always brings a smile to my face.
I was only 6 years old when I heard the sirens, and saw the flashing lights out the dinning room window. I cried out to my mother, with great excitement, “What is it! What is it!” She told me it was Santa Claus, and I could go out to see him and tell him what I wanted for Christmas.
I had never been so excited in all my life. I bundled up and outside I went with the help of my father. The massive red fire truck sat in front of our house. It was pulling a trailer covered with lights, and on the trailer was none other than the man himself, Santa. I carefully walked up the trailer steps and climbed onto Santa’s lap. I was in awe as I gazed at his sparkling eyes and rosy cheeks.
“What would you like for Christmas little girl?” he asked. “A watch Santa. Oh please may I have a watch!” “If you’ve been a good girl, I’ll see what Santa can do,” he replied with a chuckle.
I bolted to the house, opened up the garage door, and ran to my mom. I was out of breath as I talked so fast my mom could hardly understand me. “She asked me what I told Santa.” I told her, “I asked him for a watch mama!”
When Christmas eve came, I could hardly contain myself. I remember seeing the snow falling softly to the ground as I gazed out at the brightly lit street lights. I just knew Santa was coming soon. My mom helped me put the cookies for Santa on the fire place and tucked me into bed. She gave me a kiss on the cheek and told me to go to sleep fast so Santa could come.
When I awoke the next morning and ran out to the Christmas tree, there it sat, my brand new Christmas watch! I squealed with excitement as I ran to show my parents and my brother what Santa had brought me.
Christmas memories like that are ones to be photographed, framed, and hung in our hearts to keep forever.
