Today was our first day of school. I have spent many hours these past couple of months looking into different curriculums and asking many questions to my very patient friends. Within the past few weeks I have had many people question me on homeschooling. They have wondered exactly how it’s done and how long I will continue to homeschool. Some have said oh, “You have to put them into school in high school, they will miss out on all the fun things like daces and stuff.” I just replied back with, “We’ll take it year by year and see how it goes.” I couldn’t help but think whose to say they want to go to dances, and whose to say that’s what we we want for them.
Homeschooling is a whole new world for some people. For some they may offer a pat on the back and say “Oh that’s great your doing that, I don’t think I could.” Or others do not say much at all, and I wonder what they are thinking. However, for us homeschooling means being a close knit family enjoying every day life together. Homeschooling means taking life one day at a time and being beside our children every step of the way, learning and growing in the Lord. Socialization is not an issue as some people may like to think. My kids are involved in many activities with other kids and adults that range from Horse Co-op, church, drama and homeschool co-op. I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to homeschool my children. Memories are being created that will last a life time. I asked our children what kind of schooling they would like to have to which they both replied “Homeschooling.” This is the road we have chosen to take with all it’s ups and down one day at a time one year at a time while we enjoy every minute of it along the way.
