Contentment Comes to Life at the Dawning of Each New Day

Many of you know I am battling stage IV breast cancer. Today at A Biblical Marriage, I had the privilege of writing about my journey. Please join me today for “Cancer, Marriage and God”  where you’ll see a glimpse into my life, and how nothing, not even cancer can break a marriage that’s founded on God.

A Biblical Marriage

 

Contentment is a Godly characteristic that is learned over time. When Eve took that first bite of fruit in the Garden of Eden, our world became filled with the desire to want more, to know more, to be more.

It’s that desire for “more”, that can get us into a whole lot of trouble.

Wanting more, can be a good thing if done in moderation. There is nothing wrong with trying to improve your life or excel in the ministry God has called you to. When that desire for more becomes a god in your life and when it becomes all consuming, that’s when our priorities in life become skewed and problems start to multiply.

“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:11-13

When we loose the desire for ultimate self gratification, when we give up the desire for our will to be done and instead allow God’s will to be done, things change.

“your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10

Life is hard, it’s full of many unexpected twists and turns. Sometimes it’s very painful and contentment seems elusive and far off.

But, here’s the thing…..

It can be obtained. When we awake each morning, we are given a fresh start. A fresh start to give it all to God, to rest easy in His arms, to trust Him with the outcomes.  

When we pray the words found in the Lord’s prayer and seek for His will to be done and not our own, we find freedom and peace.

I know it’s hard. I know there may be days when you feel like you can’t go on. When these moments come, take it a moment at a time, offer up your prayers to Him, cry out to Him and then trust Him enough to leave it there.

Don’t take it back.

It’s only in the trusting of God each and every day that contentment can be found.

Give it over to Him friends. Pry open your hands and drop the hard, scary, and painful moments of life into His hands. He is the only one that can turn your life around and bring about contentment that comes to life at the dawning of each new day.

    Hi Shari, yes, I am in complete agreement with you. Sometimes its really hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but God never leaves us no matter how tough things appear or are! So, to stand firm and push through, God rewards that, in life, in marriage and ultimately in life-everlasting.
