Alex

One of the blessings of Friday school is that the parents are allotted certain times during the day when they can go into what is call the hospitality room, to take a break and visit with other homeschooling parents. During my break last Friday I heard a story that one mother told, which brought me to tears, which I will share you.

This mother’s son was named Alex. Alex found out at a very young age that he had cancer. When the doctors realized that there was nothing more that they could do for Alex, his parents sat him down and said that it was time to pray and wait on the Lord. To which Alex replied, “That’s OK, either the Lord will heal me here on earth or in heaven.” That’s when his Mother said that she finally got it, that we were not meant for time here on earth but rather for eternity in heaven with the Lord.

The “Make a Wish” foundation granted a request for young Alex as his cancer progressed. They built him a castle and helped throw a party for his friends. He wanted to have his friends over and let them know that he was not afraid to die, and that he was going to heaven to be with Jesus. His friends came over and Alex made sure that they gathered around him as his Mom told them the story about how they could have a relationship with Jesus.

During a following Sunday at church Alex patiently waited for his pastor because he wanted to talk to him about a very important matter. As the pastor approached he asked Alex what he could do for him, to which Alex replied, ” I want to help plan my funeral. At my funeral I want you to tell them that I am going to be with Jesus, I want you to tell them about my Jesus, and also can I see your Harley (smile)?”

Days before Alex died he was sitting in his driveway with his eyes glistening in pure excitement at the sight of his pastor’s Harley and at the roar of its engine. Alex passed away at the age of 8 1/2. At his funeral his final two wishes were granted as his loved ones heard that he was with his Jesus and what a wonderful Lord his Jesus was.

When our time on earth comes to and end, will we have that kind of peace? Will our main concern be to tell others about our Jesus? I know that is what I would want my last wish to be, to let others know that our time on earth is short and that we were meant for eternity in heaven with Alex’s Jesus the one he so desperatly wanted us know.
