Friends, my original post was going to be about teaching our children the importance of service, but I’m going to change paths, and instead talking about the importance of spending time with Jesus. Today at the doctor’s office I received news that my cancer had returned to four spots on the bones. Three on my sternum and one on the upper part of my spine. Through all of this I still proclaim His goodness and glory. I know that He is in charge and He is Lord of all. It’s times like these, the hard, gritty, in your face, wish you could turn around and run times, where true lessons are learned. Through all of this I want my children to see my walk with God grow closer than ever. I want them to know in their hearts that the most important way they can spend their time is with God. The following words bellow set the tone for where I want my focus to be at, and where I want the legacy for my children to be rooted in.
“Relax in My healing, holy presence. Allow Me to transform you through this time alone with Me. As your thoughts center more and more on Me, trust displaces fear and worry. Your mind is somewhat like a seesaw. As your trust in Me goes up, fear and worry automatically go down...Time spent with me not only increases your trust, it also helps you discern what is important and what is not. Energy and time are precious, limited entities. Therefore, you need to use them wisely, focusing on what is truly important. As you walk close to Me, saturating your mind with scripture, I will show you how to spend your time and energy. My word is a lamp unto your feet; My presence is a light for your path.” ~ Jesus Calling (Sarah Young)
Where do your children see you focusing your time? Are you setting an example by focusing on what is truly important? Time with Jesus is never wasted time. It’s the times spent with Him that will change destinies.
~Now it’s time for a link up party !~
The purpose of Leaving A Legacy is three fold. It’s mission is to challenge it’s readers to work on leaving Godly legacies for their children, to be a place of encouragement for its readers, as well as sharing my journey as a cancer survivor. You can link up your posts that deal with leaving a legacy and ones that offer encouragement to the community.
This link up will be happening every Thursday at Leaving a Legacy. Please tell your friends, and join us on this journey of leaving a Godly legacy for future generations!
- To link up go to the sidebar and get the code for the Legacy Leaver Thursdays button, right click and “save as” on the code and then upload it into your post. Or you can provide a direct link somewhere in your post linking back here. That way other bloggers can join in too!
- Then copy and paste the direct link from your post, (not your blog url), into the linky tool below.
- In order to create an encouraging community here, please take a moment to visit the person in front of you. As time permits, I will read as many of your posts as possible throughout the week. Thank you!
For those of you that link up throughout the month, I will be choosing a “featured blogger”, for the following month. The featured blogger will be someone who actively participates in the link up, and who’s posts have really touched the community. They will receive free advertising for their blog on my sidebar for that month, and also be allowed to submit one approved guest post during that month.
The featured blogger for August is Deidra from The Middle – Daily Devotion Blog. She has a way of writing that will really challenge you and grow your spirit. Please take a moment to stop by and visit her wonderful blog.
**Keep in mind that this link up is only for posts that share how to leave a legacy for your children, or posts that offer encouragement to the community. Any other posts that do not fall somewhat within these guidelines will be removed. Thank you.**

Shari, I am sorry to hear your cancer has returned. But you have a positive outlook, and I know you put your complete faith and trust in the Healer. Praying for you tonight.
Thank you so much for your prayers Barbie.
Blessings~
Shari
Shari, GREAT thoughts on the importance of spending time with the Lord. Kids often tune out what’s TOLD to them but do what’s modeled for them. Mine are in college now, and I get texts early in the morning asking me to pray for certain things in their day (tests, mainly).
Thank you for offering the link up. What a great community here!
Susan
That’s wonderful that your children still have that connection with you. I am so glad that you are part of this community! I always appreciate your posts and your words of wisdom!
Blessings~

Shari:
My heart goes out to you and I am so sorry to learn that the cancer has returned. However, you are focusing upon Jesus and not on your situation. When we choose to do that, it makes our burdens so much easier.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Shari,
Today is my first time linking up with you, and I am so thankful for the privilege to share with our fellow bloggers and your readers. Thank you for encouraging me as I try to model a godly lifestyle for my family. And I will keep you in my prayers.

You bless me beyond measure! I can only imagine what God thinks of you!!! I love you!
Prayers for you during this trial, friend.
You are right to change focus. Service is a wonderful thing for us to focus on, in due season, but there are seasons for us to just. be. Just rest in His presence and know we are loved. That time is never wasted, does overflow in service and love for God and others (when health permits!) But we are not loved for our service. We are loved in Jesus, covered in His righteousness and safe in His love.
Prayers for you as you rest in Him.
(Please read the post above= held in peace- it may be an encouragement to you today.)
