Legacy Leaver Thursday Link Up and Being the Person God Created

This week we are in week 10, of our Power of a Praying Parent Series,  “Being the Person God Created.”

“Not knowing who God made us to be, trying to be who we are not, or even just desiring to be someone else, can only lead to a life of misery, frustration, and unfulfillment.” ~ Stormie Omartian

Looking back 25 – 30 years ago, I can still remember what it was like to be a teenager. The pressure to fit it, measure up to, and be part of the popular kids was at the forefront of our minds. It was so easy to follow after the crowd, just for the sake of fitting in, and being liked.

What about you, can you remember those days?

The pressure is twice as hard for our children today. They have so many more obstacles and traps that Satan tries to ensnare them with, to prevent them from being the person God created them to be.

We need to be closely walking by our children during these difficult years.

We need to be earnestly praying  that our children would no fall into the comparison trap.

It’s so easy for girls in today to be swayed by the images in society, to want to be thinner, taller, prettier, more popular, and the list can go on and on. Boys may want to be better at sports, better looking, have more friends,  and desire to be in the “in crowd” with all of the other kids.

By the time they reach adulthood they are to busy measuring their self worth against everyone else, they miss the mark on who God created them to be.

We need to pray against this societal pressure, seeking the Lord’s will for who He really wants out children to be. We need to pray that He would make His will known in their lives and that they would desire to follow this path.

We need to show them how to recognize strengths and talents. We need to pray our children would have ears to hear God’s voice so they may walk in line with His will.

We need to encourage them in their walks with the Lord. We need to read the Bible with them, pray with them, and make sure they are having their own personal quite time with God.  Our children will better understand who they are, once they understand who God is, and what His plans are for their lives.

Won’t you join me? It’s time to get on our hands and knees and change the direction of our children’s future by calling on the name of the Father to intervene in their lives for His glory.
Prayer
Father,

I pray that you would anoint my child with your Spirit. I pray that you would lead and guide him/her in the direction that you want him/her to go. I pray that you would help him/her not to be overcome by societal pier pressure, and that the only voice they would listen to is your’s.

Please help him/her to be a leader and not a follower. Please give them the courage and strength to seek You and You alone. I pray that they would be so immersed in your word and in prayer with You that they would want nothing else, but to follow you.

In Jesus Name,
Amen

“You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. ” 1 Peter 2:9

I agree with you. I am visiting from Thought Provoking Thursday.
The world is crowding in and our children need our help. They need our time and they need us to open the discussion on sexuality. Our culture has so many messages; we need to give Biblical truth.

Thank-you for offering a prayer. I am praying with you.

I first began to get interested in the concept of “leaving a legacy” when I wrote the screenplay version of the movie, The Ultimate Gift. I loved that a grandfather would leave videos behind for a grandson to help teach him 12 main concepts he wanted him to adopt in his life. I love the concept of your blog.

God hears the cry of a mother’s heart. We need to hit our knees and pray for our children!

That comparison trap is so dangerous. May we be parents who parent on our knees, seeking God and His wisdom as we raise our children in this world. Great post!
