This week we will be discussing chapter five in our study of “The Power of a Praying Parent”, by Stormie Omartian. What type of legacy do you want to leave for your children? I want to leave a legacy that’s a mixture of many things, good memories, parents who loved them, a peaceful home, a home where laughter was heard daily, and so much more. The most important legacy that I want to leave is one where they know that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior of all.
“I have no greater joy than to hear my children are walking in truth.” 3 John 1:4
This legacy starts before they are born. Prayer is the key. From the moment of conception we need to be praying for our gifts from God that they may know Jesus Christ as their Savior. We need to be down on our knees interceding for their souls, and praying that the relationship they have with Christ is first and foremost in their lives.
How will they know about Christ? They’ll know by their parents. We are their examples. We need to be living out loud our relationship with the Lord so they can see that there is no other way than to walk with God. They need to see Jesus inside us, see Him as the joy and light of our lives so that they in turn would want nothing less.
We need to tell them the great redemption story of how Jesus died for our sins so that we could have eternal life with Him when we accept Him as our Savior. This is the highest calling a parent has….to show them who Jesus really is.
Won’t you pray this prayer with me as we strive to walk in a manner that’s pleasing to the Lord while raising our children to follow Him.
Lord,
I bring my child before you and ask that You would help him/her to grow in a deep understanding of who You are. Open his/her heart to the knowledge of how You sent your Son to die on the cross for our sins. Your word you states that, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord”, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
I pray that my child would have this faith and accept you as Lord of their lives. I pray that he/she would walk in your truth throughout their lives and follow you in all that he/she does.
Thank you Lord for caring about my child’s future. I pray that they would not stray from following you.
In Jesus name~ Amen

“Living out loud our relationship with the Lord” was my favorite line here! My prayer for my kids is that they adopt the faith as their own early on. Living my life with joy in the fullness of the Lord is part of the legacy I so desire to leave my children.
