Choices

I have been thinking lately about how important the choices we make in life are. All throughout life the choices we make are vital. As a teenager I know I thought life was so care free and I didn’t have a concern in the world. But, the choices made during this time of life affected who I am today. Which friends to choose, which college to choose, which person to date. We may not realize it, but they all change the outcome and direction of our destinies.

In our adult lives we are faced with choices that daily affect everyone around us, especially our children. I often wonder how things would be better or worse if I would have made different choices.

I feel that one of the most important choices we make on a regular basis is in the area of speech. The words that we choose to speak to others can definitely make a stronger impact than we realize and change the course of our history. I am one that can be found to speak first before my brain kicks into gear. I often wish that I had a back space button, so I could just put some of those words right back into my mouth. Smile. There are many times that I pray to God and think about a passage in scripture in James 3 that talks about the taming of the tongue. Sometimes I say, “Oh, Lord please put the bit into my mouth today just like the horses, so what I say would be pleasing to you.” I say this not to boast that I am perfect at it for I am far from it. But, I want to challenge you to be careful with the choices that God has given you. Ask yourselves if you are seeking Him in all things, because it might very well change your whole future.

Especially in the area of speech. Be mindful and careful of what is said to those around you. Words have a powerful affect that can stay with someone for a lifetime. It is my prayer that the words I speak would be like honey to those around me. What can you do today to make sure that your words are spoken in love to friends and family? Take it to the Lord in prayer and seek his face as you grow in Him. Make your choices positive ones that will leave a godly legacy for generations to come.
