Turning Their Backs On God

Sometimes I wonder when it happened…when exactly did most of the nation decide to turn their backs on God and walk away? As I look back on each decade, I see the signs slowly coming, little by little. In attitudes…in dress…in speech… in actions…. our nation has gone from a Christ centered society to a me centered society. As I was walking through a store the other day,  I was looking at the music trying to find where the christian section was….low and behold it was gone. As I was looking at a book store at the mall I was searching for books about Lent and Easter, yet again there were none to be found. It made me stop and wonder where has Christ gone? Why has society pushed Him away? I can remember at a very young age all of the stores in our city were closed on Sundays to pay respect and honor to the Lord, now many stores are open 24 hours.

I am saddened that our society has taken the attitude that being a Jesus follower is taboo. Most of our grandparents would turn over in their graves if they were to see a prominent Christian figure get slandered over speaking biblical truths. As Christian mothers and fathers we need to be on our knees praying for our society……for the world that we will be sending our children into.

One area that God has been personally convicting me in lately is, what part I play in all of this. Do I help the matter, or hurt it? Sometimes I see we as Christians, including myself, playing a part in the downgrading of society. How close to the edge of sin do we try and get to and still think it’s ok and acceptable? Do we watch television programs that are glorifying to God? What about the magazines and books we read? What about the music we listen to? What about our speech? Are we quick to make sure that our speech is free from gossip and slander, or do we participate in the unpleasing talk along with everyone else? God does not want us to be on the fence in these areas. He calls us to be different, to honor what we believe in.

Revelation 3:16 ” So, because you are lukewarm–neither hot nor cold–I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”

It’s time to take a stand…….
It’s time to make a difference……
It’s time to make sure we are firm in our convictions……

Philippians 1:27 “. . . Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel…”

1 Corinthians 16:13“…Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.”

Be bold for Jesus…. be bold for your children…… be bold for our nation.

Our futures depend on it.

Has God been working with you in this area? How do you think we as Christians can make a difference?

God has been urging me to bring a strong faith element to our home. Developing disciplines, and teaching the children to do the same. Our society is indeed sick as are many Christian homes. Our faith has become anemic compared to those in history. Great thoughts; thanks for sharing. 🙂

Hi Shari – this is such a convicting post. What part have I played? Have I helped or hindered? Certainly some tough questions to answer. Great post and thank you for linking up. I look forward to seeing you there again next week

I have been thinking the same way lately, and God is showing me if and how I play a part in our society’s attitude toward Christ. You have given me much to ponder today. I am looking forward to visiting your blog more.

    Blessings,
    Laurie

I know it can be discouraging… BUT, I believe God is raising up an army… I think the youth of our nation are going to rise up… God’s not dead He’s ALIVE… And prayer works wonders. AMEN!

Wonderful post. Our nation has turned from God instead of running to Him. I want to run to Him and raise the next generation to do the same.

I agree – we need to be on our knees praying for this society. The responsibility is ours to prepare a way for the next generation.

Prayer is the beginning,(middle & end) but we must also take action. Mentoring and investing in one child/teen/young mom or dad, will go a long way toward affecting the future. Could we exchange some of our “tv” time for something more…
