I am guilty.
Guilty of impatience.

I know the Heavenly Father can not tell us everything all at once. If He did, it would be to much for us to handle. He only gives us things a little at a time.
Lately, God has been teaching me the importance of waiting on Him. He is doing this because when I do not get immediate answers I start to become fearful. I can be just like the disciples were in the boat when the storm started to rise, as it states in Matthew 8:25-26,
25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” 26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
I believe the main reason God brings storms into our life, or times of waiting and uncertainty into our life is ……..so we will get to the place of utter dependence on Him. So that we have nothing left to do but to… trust Him. God’s word offers us wisdom in the area of trusting Him.
Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

You do not trust because you feel like it, or because it is a natural thing to do. You trust because God commands us to. You trust by reaching out to the Father and asking Him for help. Remember no matter what your situation the darkness does not last forever. I love Ann Voskamp’s writings, the following quote is on of my favorites.
“Above the clouds light never stops shining.”
No matter how dark our circumstances might seem, He is there. His light is always shinning bright to direct our paths.
When the situation seems overwhelming, and the tears start to flow, as it did for me yesterday, we {I}, need let go of the fear and replace it with the hope of His goodness and mercy. While your waiting, worship Him. Rejoice in Him. Learn to have patience through Him. He is good and desires to give us more than we could imagine.
Is there anything your waiting on God for? How do you handle times of uncertainty? Do you have any favorite verses that bring you joy and encouragement?
While you wait, please take a moment to pause the music on the sidebar, and draw closer to Him as you listen to this song.

“I believe the main reason God brings storms into our life, or times of waiting and uncertainty into our life is ……..so we will get to the place of utter dependence on Him. So that we have nothing left to do but to… trust Him.” I SO agree with this! Great post, Shari!
I struggle with patience myself. It’s true, it’s a matter of trust. I need to remember that the One who created the wind and rain can also help me through my own storms. Wonderful post!
Hi Shari – I will be lifting you up in prayer as you practice waiting on God. I too am not the most patient of people so I can relate. I try to remind myself its not the waiting that is important, its the attitude in the waiting. Sigh, not always easy. God bless my new friend and thank you for linking this awesome post up. Look forward to seeing you there next week

Would I ever like to get a telegram from God, telling me exactly which way to go, which choice to make! — I think, until I realize the rest of what you is true: He doesn’t let us know about more than we can handle, one step at a time. Your solution of “while your waiting, worship Him. Rejoice in Him. Learn to have patience through Him” — is absolutely the best. He’s been putting me through this lately, and it is so richly blessed!
(As for waiting in those horrendous car lines, sounds like you and your son might have fun reading Chitty-chitty-bang-bang together while you sit there waiting!)
Oh Shari, this is one of my absolute favorite songs and one I turn to often. Beautiful post and encouragement!
Great post.
It’s one of the hardest lessons I ever had to learn —- trusting and waiting. I often listened to those negative voices that told me I must have something wrong in my life and this was why God wasn’t doing something, or I wasn’t doing enough, praying hard enough, etc. But I have learned that if I trust in the small things, trust grows, and soon I can trust in the larger things. Oh, for grace to Trust Him more! He’s never let me down, never walked away, never turned a deaf ear. And someday, we will find how many times His grace and love for us saw us through in spite of our NOT trusting!
So glad I stopped by to read this tonight! Thank you!
Trusting and waiting on God…..something I have had to learn so much of these past couple of years. It isn’t easy , but when you get to that place where you are ok with it, there is so much freedom! I love your blog, so glad I found it through Women Living Well 🙂
I also have a hard time waiting. Even waiting on God can be hard at times. Yet, the older I get, the more i see his faithfulness. I am sending up a prayer as I write that God will give you faith and complete trust.
