Today we will be discussing chapter 2 in the book, "The Power of a Praying Parent', by Stormie Omartian. Releasing our children into God's hands......... what does this mean exactly? I don't know about you, but I'm the type of person that likes to be in control with everything in my life, especially my children. I like to know what their doing, who their with, what's going on, and how I can help any situation in their lives. The problem is..... my husband and I can end up limiting what God does by trying to parent alone. When we forget to remember that God is ultimately in control of all things, including our children, we are missing the mark. God doesn't want us to take on this world alone, especially in the area of our parenting, He wants us to remember to give all areas of our life ... read more
The Power of a Praying Parent and a Link Up
Every Thursday, for the next 3 months at Leaving A Legacy we will be doing a series over the book, "The Power of a Praying Parent", by Stormie Omartian. This week we will be discussing chapter 1. I love to pray. It's because of prayer that we can come into a deep and personal relationship with our Savior. I feel different after I pray...at peace because I know God has things under control. There's no better legacy to leave your children than that of a parent who prays, especially one who prays for their children. Parenting is one of the toughest jobs in the world. Bringing your newborn baby home for the first time can fill you with emotions of pure elation and joy, to shaking in your boots fear and worry about the unknown. "Our children's lives don't ever have to be left to chance." ~ ... read more
A Legacy of Faith and a Link Up
Today I am so honored to have Alisha Gratehouse fromFlourish, guest post for us. Please take a moment to stop by and visit her blog today! When I contemplate the legacy I want to leave my children, many things come to mind. Obviously, I want them to have a deep love of the Lord. I want them to have God’s Word rooted and grounded in their hearts so that they will be strong, established Christians. And of utmost importance, I want them to have a vibrant and intimate relationship with Him: fellowshipping with Him, obeying Him, and serving Him all the days of their lives. But there is another legacy that I want my children to have: the legacy of faith. I want them to have a strong faith in God and to firmly believe that everything He has promised, He will do. Joshua told the Israelites: ... read more

A Legacy of Raising Young Boys to be Men with Manners
Photo Credit My son and I are busy today. Busy writing. I'm busy writing away for the Legacy Leaver Thursday post and he's busy writing a school paper for English. As I look over at him I think where has the time gone. It seems like only yesterday he was my baby boy who would never leave his mother's side, now in just a few short years he will be graduating, facing the world as a young man of God. As I look back over the years I often find myself questioning, "Did I do enough?". It's often a question I have to keep in check and not become overwhelmed by as I leave the outcome of his future in the Lord's hands. Throughout the years one of the main things we've always wanted to instill in our son was the character trait of having good manners, especially towards women. It seems as if ... read more
Happy Birthday Jesus! and a Link Up
Our favorite Christmas tradition happens for our family on Christmas Eve. Every year we dim the lights and sit by the twinkling Christmas tree with it's beautiful glow as my husband reads the Christmas story.... "1 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, ... read more

I love the brightly lit trees, the pretty decorations, Christmas baking and the snow falling on the ground. The two most important things that I love about Christmas are spending time with family and celebrating the birth of our Savior. Throughout this Christmas season, I will be sharing Christmas traditions that are important to our family, which I hope get passed down from generation to generation. ~Advent~ One tradition that our family takes part in every year is the celebration of Advent. The word advent refers to the celebration of the coming of Jesus Christ. Advent is celebrated for four ... read more
A Legacy of a Mother’s Time and a Link Up
There are only so many days we are given, so many hours to use, so many minutes to further God's Kingdom. Before you know it the tomorrows turn into yesterdays, yesterdays turn into last years, and then the time is gone. How are you using the precious gift of time that the Lord has entrusted you with?As my children begin to reach closer to adulthood the phrases of, "Am I doing enough?" and "Make each moment count", constantly run through my mind. As I was seeking the Lord in prayer this week, He was asking me to give up things in my life that were time wasters, time that I could be using with my children instead. My replies always went something to the effect of, "Are you sure God? It really doesn't matter does it? Please give me a sign that this is what you really want me to do."Guess ... read more
A Legacy of a Bountiful Harvest and a Link Up
Do you ever have times in your life when the voices of doubt and discouragement tap you on the shoulder just a little harder, trying desperately to get you to listen to them? They whisper words of, "See I told you so!", or "This just isn't your day is it?", or "Come on tell them what you're really thinking.....you know they have it coming to them. They deserve it!". These voices seem to come whenever their heart desires, trying to catch you off guard just waiting to see what you will do . Will you follow the Lord's way or cave and give into the flesh and follow your own way? Sometimes it's such a hard decision to make, especially with the current state of the world. It is so easy to react to all that's going on. Without even thinking, it only takes a split second to let the words come ... read more
