Years from now when my grandchildren look at the black and white pictures of their grandmother, the main thing I want them to say about me is, “Above all else, she loved Jesus.” A legacy of loving Jesus, is what I want my legacy to be. There is nothing else that matters more than having a personal relationship with our Savior. A relationship with God that is so intertwined with every ounce of my being that I can’t survive without it.

Do you have that kind of relationship with the Savior? I will admit that my relationship isn’t always this way. So many times my foolish pride gets in the way, and I’m blindsided by self and fail. However my heart holds true to the promises found in Philippians 3:14,

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

I’m so glad that God grants us grace and second chances to pick ourselves up and start again. It’s in the new beginnings and clear hearts that I move forward with hope in Him and the love for Him that I want future generations to know.

I want my family to remember me not as being perfect, but as one who learned through the struggles and trials of life and came out stronger because of them, always going to the One who I rested my faith in.

The way that I can mirror this reflection to them is by spending time with Jesus. By being in constant prayer and reading my Bible. He will need to have the most of my time, not the least. There is no way that I can just tell my family that my relationship with Jesus matters, I’ll need to show them. Show them that the first person I go to is the Father, show them that my worship belongs to Him alone. Show them that He has first priority in my life, not the television, not the computer, not any man made idol that will fade away. He is the one that needs to be in my thoughts at all times. God deserves this type of honor and when we give it to Him, He in return gives us the gift of Himself.

What can be more precious then leaving our children with this type of treasure? Absolutely nothing. I challenge you friends to set your path on the only one that matters, that of following Christ. Make a difference in the lives of those that follow by leaving a legacy of loving Jesus for everyone to know.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul
and with all your strength.” ~ Deuteronomy 6:5

~Now it’s time to link up !~

This link up will be happening every Thursday at Leaving a Legacy. You can link up your posts that deal with leaving a legacy and posts that offer encouragement to the community.

  • To link up go to the sidebar and get the code for the Legacy Leaver Thursdays button, right click and “save as” on the code and then upload it into your post. Or you can provide a direct link somewhere in your post linking back here. That way other bloggers can join in too!
  • Then copy and paste the direct link from your post, (not your blog url), into the linky tool below.
  • In order to create an encouraging community here, please take a moment to visit the person in front of you. As time permits, I will read as many of your posts as possible throughout the week. Thank you!

For those of you that link up throughout the month, I will be choosing a “featured blogger”, for the following month. The featured blogger will be someone who actively participates in the link up, and who’s posts have really touched the community. They will receive free advertising for their blog on my sidebar for that month, and also be allowed to submit one approved guest post during that month.

October’s featured blogger of the month is my dear friend Jenifer from Sweet Blessings. Please take a moment to stop by her blog and receive hope and encouragement in Jesus!

Many Blessings~

Beautiful post. We are not perfect, but praise God for grace! I also want my kids and grandkids to remember not a perfect person but a woman after the heart of God.

    Hi Shari,
Just discovered your blog through Intentional Me, and linked up for the first time. I love your photos. They remind me of some precious ones I have of my Portuguese immigrant grandmother & grandfather. As the mom of two young adult daughters, my desire, too, is to leave a legacy of faith. For a first-generation Christian, I hope to be the first in a long line of women who love God. Visiting from Be Not Weary today and glad I did 🙂

Beautiful. I am still very young but I think about the legacy I want to leave my children and their children. Just a little fingerprint of Christ’s greatness 🙂

Amen & Amen! I’m constantly battling my “foolish pride” but I am blessed to be running the race He has set before me! Thanks for the great post & for hosting, & God bless!

I’m a grandma and your post struck a chord in my heart. How I want this for my grands. I think we all fall at times, but even in backing up our sweet grandchildren see and realize they, too, can go to God when they’ve missed up. Leaving a legacy is my greatest desire.

This is my heart’s desire as well. 🙂 I think God will honor that.
