Careful! Don’t Let it Slip Away!

Time is such a precious commodity. We have to be careful, because it’s something that slips away so fast. The older I get it seems like the less time I have. Sometimes, it seems that the simplest things I have on my to do list, end up taking the longest time. I sure hope I’m not the only one that feels this way……

One thing that I want to make sure of is that I use my time to the best of my ability. The years we have while our children are still at home go by way to fast. I want to take advantage of every opportunity to create memories and a strong family bond with them. I say these things, not because I’m perfect at them, but to daily remind myself of how important it is to take advantage of each moment. In every season of my life I want to make sure that my time is well spent.

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.”  ~ Ecclesiastes 3:1

There are a few things I have learned over the years that help me with managing my time. The main thing that helps me make the best use of my time is prioritizing. First and foremost, I have  found that you need to pray over what needs to be done. Ask God to show you what needs to be placed on your to do list and ask Him to give you the strength to complete it.

One of the biggest things that can grab a hold of your  to do list and turn it upside down, are time wasters. Time wasters can be anything from, smart phones, television, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and even to much blogging.

Yes, I said the last one….blogging. Blogging is a wonderful tool, a wonderful form a self expression, a way of connecting with other Christians, a great way to encourage others in the Lord. The thing is, it can’t take first place in your life. Find a time to blog that will not interfere with your relationship with the Lord, or your relationship with your family.

On the days when I don’t get my to do list accomplished, I have a hard time fighting the feelings of insecurity, like I don’t measure up if I can’t get as much done as other homeschooling moms. For me, I have to constantly remind myself that, God created me, to be me, and not that certain other someone that seems to have it all together.

Take a moment to ask God where you can make better choices in the area of time management. Listen to His voice….take action upon what He shows you….start today by making the best use of your time.

One of the blogs I’m linking up with today is Multitudes on Mondays. We are counting 1000 gifts to be thankful for in 2012.

I can’t say enough how much I love the blogging world. However, you are so right. If we are not careful, even our ministry of blogging can be a time waster. It is so easy to get caught up in reading many blogs and commenting. I have tried to limit myself to an handful of blogs to read each day, but it is not always easy. Facebook is a big time waster that I fight with.

I want to honor God with my time. Thank you for this encouragement.

My children are grown and I think it’s even harder to manage time wisely now without their needs clamoring to be met. It is far too easy to get lost in reading blogs or chatting on Facebook.

What a GREAT reminder!! We make so many choices every day of where our time should be spent, and yet not all of that time is chosen after careful prayer. I am trying to decide on going to our Bible study tonight (which I don’t want to miss and is such great teaching and fellowship) or stay home, get some more sleep and get the things done tonight so I’m not even more tired for a busy day tomorrow.

And it hit me a little while ago that I was simply thinking practically, not prayerfully. Then I came across your post. Thanks for sharing, I’m off to pray 🙂

Shari – thank you for a great post! You’re so right about managing one’s time, I too need to check myself, blogging, time spent on facebook – it can take up so much more of my time than it should! Love your writing style!

Guilty here! I need to do better about prioritizing for sure. Some days (like today) I just get sucked into the computer or whatever else. Thanks for the reminder!

I learned something from a bible study awhile ago — when life is overwhelming, I ask God, “What’s the one thing I need to do next.” In reality, I need to ask this at every turn, not just when I am overwhelmed. This was a timely (ha) piece for me as He is reminding me to go do my quiet time before I read any more SDG blogs! Welcome to SDG!!

Thank you everyone for your kind words. Yes, it is easy to get caught up in things that we love doing and miss out on the even more important things in life. However, with prayer and God’s help it’s something we can get better at it each day. To the Soli Deo Gloria community thank you for the warm welcome! Have a wonderful day in the Lord!

This was a powerful reminder of prioritizing our time. We do need to pray over every thing we do and make sure nothing, even blogging, takes more time than what God wants. I know it is something I have to watch and many times I fail.

My one word for the year is “discipline” and time management is on the list. I’ve never really had a problem with this until blogging came into my life. It can take over for sure if you’re not careful.

I love the look of your blog and look forward to coming back 🙂

An excellent reminder that even “good” things can turn into thieves of our time!

I am at a weird stage of life where sometimes it feels like I have too much time on my hands. Strange feeling.

    Fondly,
