On June 7th, 1996 I said good bye to one of the most important people in my life…..my Daddy. I miss him. Alot.
He was a very smart man that could do, fix, or build just about anything. I always used to put my hand in his just to compare the difference in sizes. His hand was weathered with age, from years of hard work on the wheat farms in Kansas, working on cars, and working as an electrician on elevators.
The most important thing that I remember about my Dad is that he always listened to me. He looked me square in the eye when I was talking, and made me feel like I was the most important person in the world as I shared my heart with him.
When was the last time your childen wanted your attention? When did those little hands pull on your fingers because they had an important tale to tell? Did you stop what you were doing and give them your full attention, or did you say, “Not now honey, Mommy is busy”?
The next time your children look at you with those baby blue eyes and their toothless grins……stop…..get down to their level…..look them in the eye and listen. Whatever you’re doing can wait. The toothless grins can’t. Let them know they’re important by listening to them. Treat them the way you want to be treated. Give them a sense of security and self worth by giving of yourself and time. Display Jesus’ love to them. A love that they will treasure in their hearts forever.
Now it’s time for a link-up party !
The purpose of Leaving A Legacy is two fold. It’s mission is to challenge it’s readers to work on leaving Godly legacies for their children as well as being a place of encouragment for its readers. Eligible posts are ones that fit into either category.
This link-up will be happening every Thursday at Leaving a Legacy. Please tell your friends, and join us on this journey of leaving a Godly legacy for future generations!
- To link-up go to the sidebar and get the code for the Legacy Leaver Thursdays button, right click and “save as” on the code and then upload it into your post. Or you can provide a direct link somewhere in your post linking back here. That way other bloggers can join in too!
- Then copy and paste the direct link from your post, (not your blog url), into the linky tool below.
- In order to create and encouraging community here, please take a moment to visit the person in front of you.
Now for the suprise…..for those of you that link-up througout the month, I will be choosing a “featured blogger”, for the following month. The featured blogger will be someone who actively particpates in the link-up, and who’s posts have really touched the community. They will receive free advertising for their blog on my sidebar for that month, and also be allowed to submit one approved guest post during that month.
I hope you have felt uplifted and renewed while visiting Leaving A Legacy. I want to take a moment to invite you to get additional updates that are not posted here on the blog by connecting with us through Facebook and Twitter. You can also subscribe to Leaving A Legacy and have the latest posts delivered right to your email or RSS feed.

Shari, don’t you just love all the beautiful memories! Thank you for this reminder. Giving my son my full and undivided attention is always a struggle.

What a handsome picture!
I love that your dad always looked you in the eyes. That is something God “spanked” me about a few years ago. I still am working on it though. Great encouragement.
Thank you friend!
I’m so glad I found you from Tracy’s site! Your blog is a blessing and I am now following it, and I invite you to follow mine, Saved by Grace:
