A Legacy of Love and a Link Up

Twenty years ago today, my husband and I said, “I do”, in front of family and friends. Wow!

We were so young 22 and 23, we had the world ahead of us and thought we could accomplish anything that the world threw at us. You know what? We did. Was it perfect? Absolutely not. However….by the grace of God we made it.

We have gone through more than we could have ever dreamed. The birth of two precious children, the death of family members and a diagnosis that shattered our world……stage IV breast cancer.

Throughout these twenty years of ups and downs we have always had two choices. We could both have turned and run when things got difficulty or messy…..or we could choose God’s way.

God’s way has always been the path we have both chosen. Our desire as husband and wife has been to show our children that the root of a marriage that will stand the test of time is having Jesus at the center.

What our legacy of love has centered on is putting the other first, and ourselves second. It has come down to realizing that marriage is not about getting our own way, but thinking of our spouses needs first.

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.” ~ Philippians 2:3

What type of marriage do you want your children to emulate? Is the focus of your marriage on self, or on building the other up?

The type of marriage that we are practicing now is the kind that our children will practice once they are married. Take you marriage to the Lord in prayer today, and ask the Lord how you can grow to be more in His image so that your children will be able to do likewise when they are older. Give your children a legacy of love that will stand the test of time.

“A new commandB)’> As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

The purpose of Leaving A Legacy is three fold. It’s mission is to challenge it’s readers to work on leaving Godly legacies for their children, to be a place of encouragement for its readers, as well as sharing my journey as a cancer survivor. You can link up your posts that deal with leaving a legacy and ones that offer encouragement to the community.

This link up will be happening every Thursday at Leaving a Legacy. Please tell your friends, and join us on this journey of leaving a Godly legacy for future generations!

  • To link up go to the sidebar and get the code for the Legacy Leaver Thursdays button, right click and “save as” on the code and then upload it into your post. Or you can provide a direct link somewhere in your post linking back here. That way other bloggers can join in too!
  • Then copy and paste the direct link from your post, (not your blog url), into the linky tool below.
  • In order to create an encouraging community here, please take a moment to visit the person in front of you. As time permits, I will read as many of your posts as possible throughout the week. Thank you!

For those of you that link up throughout the month, I will be choosing a “featured blogger”, for the following month. The featured blogger will be someone who actively participates in the link up, and who’s posts have really touched the community. They will receive free advertising for their blog on my sidebar for that month, and also be allowed to submit one approved guest post during that month.

The featured blogger for the month of September is Christina from To Show Them Jesus. Christina has a love for the Lord, and blogs about how to draw closer to Jesus in your every day walk with Him. Please stop by and be blessed by her words of wisdom.

Many Blessings~

    Hi Shari,
Happy 20th anniversary! We just celebrated 25 years and I had fun blogging about that a couple of weeks ago.

Marriage isn’t easy, but I’ve always thought my relationship with my husband included stewardship. Will the Lord hold me accountable if I don’t help Steve to be the best he can be? Since he’s the head of the family, I wanted to do everything I could to help him be successful in every area: work, ministry, community, etc. For us, that meant that I’d stay home with the kids and be involved in those areas.

I know every relationship is different, but that’s what worked for us. For 25 years 🙂 Thank you, Lord!

And thank YOU, sweet Shari, for your encouragement and for offering this link up each week!
    Susan

You are welcome. I agree with you and the aspect of stewardship in a marriage. I also agree that we are accountable for how we act in our marriage. Thank you for linking up friend.

      Blessings~

Happy Anniversary Shari. I’m celebrating 19 years this week. This week I’ve spent much time in His presence, thanking Him for the grace and mercy it took for us to reach this milestone. Isn’t it precious to look back and know that the Lord kept you? Celebrating with you!

Happy Anniversay to you! The Lord has kept us all these years, without Him at the center we would have never made it. I am so thankful! Thanks for stopping by!

    Blessings~
