Once you find out that you will soon have a precious baby boy or girl in your arms, your world will change forever. Children are one of God’s greatest blessings, Psalm 127:3 “Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him.” In the following words you will find advice that I wish I would have known 20 years ago before my babies were born.
1. Seek the Lord in prayer about how He wants you and your husband to raise your children. Be in daily communion with Him about anything and everything concerning your precious children. He is where you will great your strength and wisdom from.
2. Remember that your job as a mother is a high calling, treat it as such.
Martin Luther once said, ” What you do in your house is worth as much as you did it up in heaven for the Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and work flow.”
3. Don’t compare or rush them. Each child is different, therefore each child will do to things at their own pace. Do not rush your children into doing something before it’s their time. Before you know it, they will walk, potty train and learn to read when they are ready to. It does not make them any better or worse than the next child, it makes them “themselves”, which is who God created them to be.
4. Raise them for the Lord. Proverbs 22:6, ‘Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Set and example in your home of what it means to follow Christ. It should be your first priority to raise them to know the Lord and serve Him.
5. Love them. Children will flourish when they know they are loved. Create memories with your young ones. Step away from the computer and turn off the television, play dolls, play games, laugh and have fun. Make memories that you will keep in your hearts forever.
Don’t waste a moment. Cherish each and every second with your babies. Before you know it, you’ll be watching their car drive away as they start a life of their own. The adventure of marriage and motherhood is a wonderful one. Enjoy your journey.
