This week we are in week 10, of our Power of a Praying Parent Series,  "Being the Person God Created." "Not knowing who God made us to be, trying to be who we are not, or even just desiring to be someone else, can only lead to a life of misery, frustration, and unfulfillment." ~ Stormie Omartian Looking back 25 - 30 years ago, I can still remember what it was like to be a teenager. The pressure to fit it, measure up to, and be part of the popular kids was at the forefront of our minds. It was so easy to follow after the crowd, just for the sake of fitting in, and being liked. What about you, can you remember those days? The pressure is twice as hard for our children today. They have so many more obstacles and traps that Satan tries to ensnare them with, to prevent them from being the ... read more

Today is week 9 in our Power of a Praying Parent Series. Today's chapter talks about developing a hunger for the things of God. I fully believe that being a parent is one of the hardest jobs there is. Can I get an amen? Just think about it....we have been entrusted with raising a human being. Someone that can shape the outcome of history. Someone that can make the choice to go the ways of the world or who can make the choice to follow Jesus. We as parents need to be on guard day and night praying for our children that they would have a heart for Jesus. In all that we say and do, we need to be directing them back towards they Lord. We need to be consistent in our discipline and training, making sure that leading our children to Christ is always top priority. We need to teach our ... read more

This week at Leaving a Legacy we will be discussing chapter 8, "Attracting Godly Friends and Role Models," in "The Power of a Praying Parent" book by Stormie Omartian. I don't know about you, but I'm a mama who likes to control things. Up until my children reached high school age, I homeschool my children, and did everything in my power to control who would influence them. I joined homeschool co-ops, went to Friday school, set up play dates, planned parties, and participated in many church activities so my children could be around godly people, and in a godly environments. "The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray." Proverbs 12:26 It is so important who are children are friends with. We need to watchful and in prayer at all times ... read more

Today we are discussing chapter seven, "Maintaining Good Family Relationships " in the book, "The Power of a Praying Parent," by Stormie Omartian. Life can be hard. It moves fast. It catches us by surprise and takes us to places we would have never dreamed. In the hustle and bustle of it all, we need to make sure that our job of being a parent is top priority. The main and the most important thing we can always do for our children, no matter what their age, is to pray for them. We need to start  before they are born and continue on till our last breath. A very important area to remember to pray for our children is in the area of relationships especially those within the family. "How many relationships are left to chance because no one prays about them? Far too many, I suspect. It's sad ... read more

Today we are on week six of our series, "The Power of a Praying Parent", by Stormie Omartian. This week's topic is about children honoring their parents and resisting rebellion. I don't know about you but it doesn't take much to get me riled up, or shall we say mad. My husband and I always joke that we're the opposite this way. I can get mad in 0-10 seconds flat, and I usually get over it pretty quick, whereas it takes him quite a bit to get upset and a whole lot longer to get over it. I often wonder, what makes us the we are. What creates our personalities.... is it ingrained into us from the beginning, or is it something that's learned along the way? If it happens to be a combination of both, which factor is the driving force? I think the answer to this varies for each one of us. When ... read more

Today we will be discussing chapters 3 & 4 of the book "The Power of a Praying Parent", by Stormie Omartian.  The topics that are covered in these chapters are, securing protection from harm, and helping our children to feel loved and accepted. Prayer changes things. When we call on the most High, through faith, and in accordance with His will, anything is possible. What seems like momentous mountains have the power to be moved, when we cry out to Him with the deepest longings of our hearts. We need to make sure that we never neglect to come to Him in prayer, especially in the area of our children's safety and feelings of self worth. It is so important to pray for our children's safety. So much can happen in today's scary world, it seems as if another act of violence towards one of ... read more

Today we will be discussing chapter 2 in the book, "The Power of a Praying Parent', by Stormie Omartian. Releasing our children into God's hands......... what does this mean exactly? I don't know about you, but I'm the type of person that likes to be in control with everything in my life, especially my children. I like to know what their doing, who their with, what's going on, and how I can help any situation in their lives. The problem is..... my husband and I can end up limiting what God does by trying to parent alone. When we forget to remember that God is ultimately in control of all things, including our children, we are missing the mark. God doesn't want us to take on this world alone, especially in the area of our parenting, He wants us to remember to give all areas of our life ... read more

Every Thursday, for the next 3 months at Leaving A Legacy we will be doing a series over the book, "The Power of a Praying Parent", by Stormie Omartian. This week we will be discussing chapter 1. I love to pray. It's because of prayer that we can come into a deep and personal relationship with our Savior. I feel different after I pray...at peace because I know God has things under control. There's no better legacy to leave your children than that of a parent who prays, especially one who prays for their children. Parenting is one of the toughest jobs in the world. Bringing your newborn baby home for the first time can fill you with emotions of pure elation and joy, to shaking in your boots fear and worry about the unknown. "Our children's lives don't ever have to be left to chance." ~ ... read more
